European Maritime Day 2024: Fostering Collaboration and Sustainable Blue Economy

2024.6.3

EFFOP took part in the European Maritime Day 2024 on May 30th and 31st in Svendborg, Denmark. This annual event brings together Europe’s maritime community to network, discuss, and plan collaborative actions on maritime affairs and the sustainable blue economy.

EFFOP participated in a presentation about the Greater North Sea Basin Initiative (GNSBI). Established in November 2023, GNSBI is a collaborative framework among nine countries surrounding the North Sea: Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Its goal is to enhance cooperation in maritime spatial planning. The panelists highlighted the necessity of collaboration in the North Sea and the importance of finding solutions that satisfy politicians, industries, and environmentalists, ensuring that ambitions for renewable energy sources and fisheries can coexist.

EFFOP also joined a workshop organized by the EU Advisory Councils (AC) on fisheries and aquaculture. In recent years, the ACs have become think tanks and forums for stakeholder engagement, providing advice on fisheries and aquaculture. By reaching consensus in their advice, the ACs effectively coordinate and include stakeholders, facilitating formalized communication and information exchange on fisheries and aquaculture. EFFOP is a member of the Baltic Sea AC, Pelagic AC, North Sea AC, Aquaculture AC, and Market AC, and we are proud to participate in these important forums.

Anne Mette Bæk, Managing Director of EFFOP, commented: “The European Maritime Day in Svendborg was a wonderful event, bringing together Europe’s maritime community to network, discuss, and plan joint actions on maritime affairs and the sustainable blue economy. It is always inspiring to see how diverse the maritime community is and how much we all depend on a healthy ocean for our businesses and livelihoods.”
