EFFOP is delighted to welcome Varðin Pelagic to its growing group of producers.

Varðin Pelagic is a subsidiary to the Varðin Group and has been a fish oil and protein producer since 2023, it is the largest fishing company in the Faroe Islands and a leading supplier of pelagic fish in the North Atlantic. Renowned for its robust modern fishing fleet, which holds 50% of the Faroese pelagic quotas, and cutting-edge pelagic processing plant, Varðin Pelagic stands as a pinnacle of vertical integration, orchestrating every facet of the value chain from the moment of capture to the final distribution, thereby ensuring security of delivery, traceability, and uncompromised quality.

Positioned perfectly in relation to the North Atlantic fishing grounds, Varðin Pelagic ensures the freshest catch by swiftly processing fish at its state-of-the-art facility, often within just a few hours of being caught.

As part of their strategic expansion, Varðin Pelagic is venturing into the production of fish protein and crude fish oil products suitable for human consumption. This initiative represents the first step in their effort to minimize waste and maximize sustainability. Construction for their protein and crude oil factory commences in 2025, with production set to commence by autumn 2026. The facility will utilize freshly caught blue whiting, sourced from the pristine waters just hours before processing. Additionally, Varðin will incorporate trimmings from mackerel and herring, ensuring optimal resource utilization and minimal waste.

The newly formed partnership with EFFOP underscores Varðin Pelagic’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices within the European fishmeal and fish oils industry. Together, we aim to set new standards for excellence and drive positive change towards a more sustainable future.
