EFFOP welcomes the Omnibus Package and the Clean Industrial Deal

2025.3.11

EFFOP welcomes the European Commission’s recent introduction of the Omnibus Simplification Package and the Clean Industrial Deal, both of which are key to improving Europe’s industrial competitiveness and sustainability.

The Omnibus Simplification Package aims to streamline existing EU sustainability legislation, including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the EU Taxonomy Regulation and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). The proposal aims to reduce administrative burdens, improve clarity and lower compliance costs.

While some may see these simplifications as a step backwards in sustainability efforts, EFFOP reaffirms that our industry has long been committed to sustainable practices. Our members adhere to strict European and national regulations and rely on responsible management of fish stocks based on the latest scientific knowledge. In addition, approximately 40% of our raw materials come from trimmings, optimizing the use of marine resources and exemplifying our commitment to circularity in the blue economy.

The Clean Industrial Deal represents a significant step towards a low-carbon future, with the goal of reducing emissions by 90% by 2040. This initiative aims to strengthen the clean tech sector and support energy intensive industries in their decarbonisation efforts. At EFFOP, we hope that the Commission will not leave the fish processing industry out in the cold, as we need support to continue our decarbonisation journey. We are committed to delivering high quality products with a low carbon footprint and hope that the Clean Industrial Deal will facilitate our contribution to the EU’s climate targets.

We remain committed to sustainable practices and look forward to working with European bodies to identify red tape and regulatory challenges and propose practical solutions to ensure our industry continues to thrive within a supportive regulatory framework.
