EFFOP in Madrid: Outlook for the European Industry
2026.5.6
On 28 April 2026, our CEO, Anne Mette Bæk, represented EFFOP at the IFFO The Marine Ingredients Organisation Members’ Meeting in Madrid. She shared perspectives on behalf of European producers and took part in discussions with colleagues from across the global value chain.
The meeting highlighted that the marine ingredients sector is entering a more demanding phase, with tighter and less predictable supply, more integrated and strategic policy frameworks, and higher expectations for sustainability and efficient use of resources. For 2026, production in Europe is expected to be constrained due to reduced availability of whole fish and by products, combined with continued uncertainty around access to raw materials and long term management of key pelagic stocks.
At the same time, there are positive signs, including an improved outlook for Icelandic capelin, a strong global status of tuna stocks, and growing engagement across the value chain in fisheries management. With the EU increasing its focus on food security, resilience, and the blue economy, the role of marine ingredients is becoming increasingly important and closely examined.
