EFFOP contributes to the consultation on the Circular Economy Act
2025.9.12
On 10 September, EFFOP – Marine Nutrients Europe submitted its response to the European Commission’s public consultation on the forthcoming Circular Economy Act, highlighting the essential role of our sector in the blue circular economy and emphasizing the need for a regulatory framework that enables the optimal use of marine resources.
Our submission underlined the importance of ensuring that raw materials are fit for high-value use in food and feed. We called on the Commission to prioritize action on contaminants such as PFAS, which compromise the quality of marine resources and undermine their recovery for sustainable markets.
EFFOP also drew attention to the regulatory barriers created by the current animal by-products (ABPs) and food hygiene frameworks. While these regulations are essential to ensure safety, their rigid application limits the valorization of raw materials. By removing unnecessary barriers and promoting pragmatic solutions, the Circular Economy Act can help unlock Europe’s potential to increase the availability of high-quality blue omega-3 products with a low carbon footprint and strengthen competitiveness in both the food and feed markets.
