EFFOP in the 6th IFFO Marine Ingredients China Workshop

The European Fishmeal and Fish Oil Producers (EFFOP) actively took part in the 6th IFFO Marine Ingredients China Workshop December 12, 2023, in Guangzhou City, China. It was a successful event, drawing 81 delegates from 10 different countries and regions.

At the workshop, we introduced our organization to the audience, focusing on the European fishmeal and fish oil sector. We highlighted our sector’s dedication to sustainability, stringent regulations, and a transparent, traceable value chain.

The European sector globally stands out for its emphasis on a circular economy, setting a notable example for fishmeal and fish oil producers worldwide. A significant achievement is sourcing 40% of raw material from trimmings, a practice several of our members prioritize to boost efficiency and sustainability in their production.

Our commitment to traceability also sets a benchmark for fishmeal and fish oil producers globally. Our members acquire impressive certifications covering sustainability, food safety, environmental impact, fisheries standards, technical operations, and more. This comprehensive approach shows our commitment to delivering high-quality products.

Furthermore, EFFOP distinguishes itself by focusing on Total Allowable Catches (TAC) and quota regulation. These measures stem from evidence-based advice by independent scientific bodies like the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES).
